It's Time to Walk A Mile in Her Shoes

There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's a really difficult to talk about: gender relations and men's sexualized violence against women.

Now it's your turn to join the fun with Safe Alliance at this year's Walk A Mile in Her Shoes. Last year the event was named Reader's Choice Best Charity Event by Creative Loafing, making it a can't miss experience. Plus this year we have some BIG surprises up our sleeve so register today!

Join us Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark

On Tuesday, June 13th the Charlotte Knights will take on the Louisville Bats at BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte. Summer is Here

Last year Cynthia, 38, and her three children had a great summer.  Dennis, 13, went to his favorite sports camp.  Sasha, 8, had days full of fun and sleepovers with her friends.  Jacob, 5, played by the pool all summer long.  This family looks like many others at this time of year, and they may even seem similar to yours.  They are hoping to have a season of fun and memorable times together.  There's just one barrier:  Cynthia and her children are currently living in a domestic violence shelter.

Your support will help families like Cynthia's.  Safe Alliance provides hotlines, trauma counseling and safe, secure shelter for over 100 people each night and more than half are children.  These critical services ensure that no family spirals into homelessness, lives with chronic violence, or even becomes a homicide victim.  Your donation provides a lifeline to safety, empowerment, and financial stability for victims and their children.

Around the Shelter

Last weekend, two members of our Lotus Society invited six of their friends to a cookout. However, instead of hosting the cookout at their home, they hosted the cookout at our Clyde and Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter for our residents and staff. The weather was perfect for this all-day outdoor event! The hosts brought all of the food needed for a filling lunch, outdoor games such as chalk, yardzee, laddergolf, and even a bouncehouse. Over 50 adult residents attended with their children for a day of fun in the sun. Thank you to the Coyne family for a memorable day to kick of the summer for our families in Shelter.
