Prosecutors have dismissed domestic violence charges against Panthers defensive end and soon-to-be free agent Greg Hardy after they said the accuser in the case couldn't be found.

Hardy's appeal in the case was set to begin Monday but District Attorney Andrew Murray asked for the case to be dismissed in court, stating accuser Nicole Holder has been unavailable to talk to them.

Advocates for victims of domestic violence said Monday that the Greg Hardy case illustrates one of the most vexing problems facing the movement overcoming victims' fears about testifying.

Hardy's case was dismissed when prosecutors were unable to subpoena Nicole Holder, who accused the Carolina Panthers defensive end of attacking her during a squabble at his uptown condo in May. Before vanishing, she told prosecutors she did not want to testify in a second trial after Hardy appealed his earlier conviction.

In front of a packed courtroom, the Panthers defensive end showed little emotion as District Attorney Andrew Murray dismissed the charges. Murray told the judge that without testimony from Hardy's ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder, the trial couldn't go forward. The court session lasted less than five minutes.

A chilling, first-of-its-kind PSA is set to air during the Super Bowl Sunday night, raising awareness of domestic violence. The NFL teamed up with the No More campaign to make the minute-long spot.

It depicts a woman calling 911 and asking to order a pizza. The dispatcher eventually deducts she is in trouble but cannot say as much, because her attacker is in the home. The PSA is based on a real-life cry for help.
