NARI’s return: Sunshine Room Makeover

At Safe Alliance's Clyde & Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter, there are rooms designated for different age groups of children. These spaces allow the children and teens to have their own safe place to play and connect with peers. It also provides a place that has adult supervision when their parents are participating in support groups or other programming. In Fall of 2023, the Morgan and Brian Cromwell children's room and the teen room were both renovated by NARI, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. One of the members, Stephanie Calderon, and her team had so much fun that they came back to paint and remodel the room designated for children under 5, which is called the Sunshine Room.

Safe Alliance was thrilled when Stephanie and NARI reached out about returning to makeover the Sunshine Room. Idamae, Children's Program Manager, shared that she cried when she first saw the transformation. "It was so meaningful to her to have such beautiful and thoughtful spaces created for child survivors," said Idamae.

The Sunshine room renovations were completed this past month. Stephanie incorporated the room's name as inspiration for the design elements like the rainbow and stripes. This was emphasized with the "Hello Sunshine" words on the wall.

Many individuals came out and donated their time to help Safe Alliance complete this transformative project. We are so appreciative of the time and effort that went into this makeover, including all the planning and creativity behind the execution.  Thank you!
