Safe Alliance Annual Impact Report Fiscal Year 2024: A Year of Hope, Healing, and Empowerment

As we reflect on the past year, Safe Alliance is proud to share the profound impact our work has had on survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Mecklenburg County. In fiscal year 2024 (FY24), we were able to provide life-saving services to thousands of individuals in our community, offering support, safety, and a path toward healing.

FY24 by the Numbers:
The numbers from our FY24 Annual Report tell a powerful story:

  • 18,908 individuals were impacted by Safe Alliance programs and services
  • 6,313 safety plans were developed in collaboration with clients through conversations with the Greater Charlotte Hope Line, helping them protect themselves and their families.

  • 99% of clients who called the Greater Charlotte Hope Line identified at least one strategy to stay safe

  • 7,728 instances where survivors were provided with court education

  • 96% of shelter residents increased their self-sufficiency through empowerment

  • 100% of clients reported feeling safer after receiving navigation services through our Survivor Resource Center

These statistics are more than just numbers--they represent real lives transformed by Safe Alliance and the community's support. Behind every figure is a story of resilience, courage, and recovery.

One of our most exciting developments is the progress on The Umbrella Center, Charlotte-Mecklenburg's first family justice center. Scheduled to open in Summer 2026, this transformative project will bring  service providers together under one roof to support victims of various interpersonal violence. This center will be a cornerstone in providing comprehensive and coordinated support to those in need.

This year, we were also honored to receive a multi-year grant from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation to enhance our human trafficking victim support services. This grant, along with our ongoing preparations for The Umbrella Center, underscores Safe Alliance's commitment to being a leader in trauma-informed care.

Each survivor's journey is unique, and we are grateful to be part of their story, offering guidance and resources to help them feel safe, informed, and supported. Survivors who come to Safe Alliance share incredible stories of hope and healing. Here are a few of their powerful words:

"Both the Greater Charlotte Hope Line and in-person support were incredibly helpful and informative. I appreciate the time they took with me.

"Their sensitivity and compassion really helped me feel better about my situation, and limited some of the confusion regarding the assault I experienced. I'm very grateful for Safe Alliance's support.

For survivors of domestic and sexual violence, the road to healing can feel long and overwhelming. At Safe Alliance, we know that the path forward looks different for everyone. Kierra Hinton, one of our dedicated clinicians, shares an important message for survivors:

"Survivors of sexual violence often feel shame, guilt, fear, anger, and loneliness. I want them to know they are not alone and that their emotions are valid responses to the pain caused by someone else's malice. The impact of sexual violence can be overwhelming, altering how survivors navigate the world. Safe Alliance is here to help, with no timeline for healing. Survivors have the power to choose when they're ready to seek support, and there is hope--even in the darkest times, there is light."

Our staff dedication drives the impact we can make on survivors' lives. Abby Moran, a clinician with our STRC program, reflects on her passion for this work:

"I am passionate about providing counseling to survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence because I believe whole-heartedly that all survivors deserve the emotional space and support that is necessary for healing. Throughout my past three years with the agency, I have been consistently inspired by the clients I work with and by my dedicated colleagues that I work alongside.

Safe Alliance's work would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our team and the generous support of our community. Together, we are creating lasting change in the lives of those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault. Thank you for standing with us in this mission, and for helping make FY24 a year of hope, healing, and empowerment.
