Keynote Speaker: William Gay

William Gay is cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After playing college football for the University of Louisville, he was drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Over the years he has built up impressive stats earning him the spot as the No. 34 overall corner among 118 qualifiers.

In 2015 William Gay made headlines for being fined by the NFL when he wore purple cleats in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While Gay knew that he would break the NFL's uniform code with the purple cleats, he felt that his bigger mission was accomplished by saying, "People now know what purple means. We're taking steps."

Gay's mother was murdered in a domestic violence incident when he was eight years old. At the urging of other family members, his mother left her boyfriend. Shortly after she had ended the relationship, the boyfriend found her and shot her three times. The boyfriend then killed himself.

William is now utilizing his resources to raise awareness about domestic violence in memory of his mother.
